Does anyone know how to determine the build number of a Wedge from the chassis number? or is it a factory enquiry.

Andy.

You need the wedge bible, the chassis number details are in there. I can look it up for you?

Oh right! I've got the bible but never noticed the chassis numbers bit, I only tend to read the section relevant to the latest part breaking!

Cheers,

Andy.

Hi Steve,

The cars ok thanks, going to get it back on the rollers though because it feels like its underfueling a bit now since i last had it tuned to go to Bruntingthorpe, after that the spending stops until the new year..well on the big bits anyway!

Saw the SEAC looking very shiney in this months Sprint at Gang on the Green, You still terrorising the locals?

Thanks Hans,

After consulting the bible it only gives dates of the changes to spec regarding chassis numbers, i want to know the build number of my car, so is Haans correct in the assumption of the last 3 digits??

Andy.

Dunno,the last three digits for my 1991 400se are 289, but they only built approx 270 400se's!

The last 3 digits on my Feb85 390SE chassis number (no VIN Code) are 959 - so I think that blows that theory ... unless it's total chassis built since start of TVR ???

Did a bit of searching

Try this?
That works for VIN numbered cars, I can't find anything for pre-VIN cars.

Not sure it does work really!
The code makes mine a December build in the 1991 model year (possibly about right,) but it would also make it the 289th 400se built in that year - Not right surely

Or the 28th in 9(1)? 44 built in 91 according to the bible. mine has 119 so 11th in 9(0)?

Hope this helps.

TVR had their own numbering system pre vin plates which came in around mid 1985.

The 400SE should follow this system:-

For example SA9DH28PXFBO19433

S = made in UK
A = Less than 500 cars per annum
9 ?
D= type of body DH drop head (FH fixed head)
H = weight class 3001-4000lbs GVW
28 = Engine size 28=2.8 Ford v6 35=3.5 V8 40 = etc
P = Fuel type (petrol)
X = Vin verification check
F = Manufacturing year F=1985 G=1986 etc
B = Manufacturing plant B=Blackpool
019= International code, designating TVR 280 and 350
fhc and dh from TVR factory address
433 = sequential build number.

I hope this answers your question. Remember that TVR were building the "S" at the same time as the 400, so the final 3 digits will not tell you exactly where abouts in wedge production your car actually sits.
