Firstly what a great thread. Secondly some stunning garages. Thirdly what a relief to find out that it isnt just me. My family think I'm mental as the garage is tidier than the house!

I'll post some interior pics of this on Saturday when I get chance to take some (and because my new Pork will be home on Friday from Paintshield!).

Now full as a prodigious use of man maths, bloke physics and a 2 post lift has allowed me to fit 4 cars, a driving sim, desk with gaming PC, car transporter trailer and work bench plus various types of storage in there but I'm now thinking about how I get more in. Raise the ceiling is the obvious route, I'm thinking mezzanine above the first bay and double height in 2 and 3 (the lift is in 2 right now and just has the trailer on it so a car fits underneath).

Currently trying to buy some land behind the house so I can build a barn as ‘er indoors won’t let me extend into the garden. Owner has disappeared off the face of the planet though.

Funniest moments of the year are when my wife is scraping ice off her 4x4 and I just drive out. Yup, hers lives outside.
Re land behind house with disappeared owner. See solicitor, if you occupy it for 12yrs and you're not told to get off, it's yours.

Thanks, unfortunately my nearest neighbour would tell me to get off (or at least be awkward). He's a solicitor and chair of the Parish council and whilst we are civil, there's no love lost. The farmer who owned the land died and his son sold the farmhouse and land off but not this bit as its useless for farming (only about 1/2 an acre and surrounded by other people's gardens) and he tried to get planning for a house and got knocked back 3 times (so rumour has it).

I'm told he may be in prison. Thats the country for you, rumour upon rumour.

Alternative is to dig the garden up, build an underground garage and put the garden back but that sounds expensive to me! Yes, i am sad, I am a car nerd, I have designed said underground garage and have the paper drawings. You've gotta have something to dream about eh.

Only the owner can tell you to get off. As for use, just grow vetables on it for 12yrs. Planning history will be with local council. Offer to break him out of prison if he'll sell it to you!!!

Just checked and none on my laptop (I'm at work). Ill take some tonight. They'll be without the pork as its due Friday.

Its tight to say the least. The track car is on dollys across the back of the right hand garage with the Model A in front of it and there must be no more than an inch to spare either end of the Model A. There's nothing I need to get to on the right hand side of the Model A but if I did I would either have to open the door or go through the Model A.

If I swapped the track car for anything wider, even by a couple of inches, it wouldnt all fit in.

For now here's the cars. Mini JCW is now gone, 981 S replacing it.

Ahh, didnt know that. Not sure my patience would last 12 years mate. I'm eyeing up a 205 Gti 1.9 on eBay atm and frankly im wasting my time until I get some more space one way or another.

Edit - tell a lie, found an old one. Bit of a change around since then though. Now have a 2 post lift over the M3, shelving is elsewhere and the Model A sits where the Mini is.

And another. Trailer is now on the lift and that space is clear for the new car.

She sounds awful.

I thought the Porsche options list was ridiculous but when I specced mine it seems to have included a new kitchen, new laundry room, downstairs bathroom, hall way refurb and a log burning stove. Came with free peace and quiet and a 3 year no nagging warranty though.

Oh, and a puppy.....she drives a hard bargain.

Thanks, never go in that forum. Posted including another pic. Sorry, thread hijack there a bit.

Nice bit of cheap luxury added today. £15 for 3 remote sockets and a remote control. Plugged 3 of those yellow/black clamp on lamps into them and now I can flick them on from the car. Helps no end when reversing in at night. Remote even has an option to flick all three on and off together.

I've been dedicating some time to planning my dream garage. The new house will have a 25ft wide x 50ft deep plot that a garage could be built in. So roughly 3 cars wide, by 3 cars deep. Height shouldn't be a problem.

I'd like a lift of some kind.

Anyone care to offer a suggested layout?

My first thought was to have parking at the back of the garage for 3 cars in a row, with a mezzanine floor above covering the parking area. Then in front of the cars having a workshop area with lift and storage running along the side.

The only issue is actually being able to get the cars out from the back of the garage!

I also need storage for a few bikes.

I'm imagining a kind of workshop/showroom kind of feel.
I think it's got to be parking at the front, workshop at the back.
This saves space and covers views of the workshop from outside - you can cover any posh cars, stops them getting dusty!

Mezzanine depends upon lift and roof shape - maybe a sofa and drink maker up there?

ETA:

If you get some 4x2" an big castors + worktops you can make moveable benches, so you can reconfigure your space as required.

Good advice, ta.

I'm now wondering whether i should scale it back. Rough estimates of costs from a builder mate are scary!!

Bloody tractors. I live in the sticks. This time of year the roads are like mudbaths. Makes for some interesting cornering too.

Since the Mini JCW went to make room for the Porsche (about a month ago) the M has been on daily duty. It'll get a good clean and time off next week.

Yup, everything has tobe in its place for it all to fit and be useable. Works ok. Be better when I finally get my arse into gear and lift the ceiling. Can stick the Indy R on the trailer on the lift then and stick a 4 poster in over the Model A. Mezzanine floor above the Porsche should let me shift the driving sim and PC upstairs.

Just make sure the size is in keeping with your house, you don't want to write off the value of that.
As for costs - it shouldn't be that much - find another builder.

Basically the steps you need are:

1) Drainage - rainwater and any waste water.
2) Foundations (allowing for electricity, water, phone, ethernet coming in
3) Lots of blocks and bricks - you'll want cavity walls.
4) A roof - you just order the timber via Travis Perkins etc.
5) Someone to stick the felt on, nail the battens on and hang the tiles.

You should spend time thinking about where doors, windows etc all go too, and go through use scenarios..

What are the dimensions of that? I'm thinking that i won't need quite so much space. A triple garage that's a bit deeper than std would do. 25' x 25' or so. Should still have room for a 4 post lift in the middle with a car either side. Storage running along the back.

Not sure off the top of my head. You can probably guess the depth from the M3 length, it's about 1-2 inch inside the door. Width wise the doors are about 8' I think so again, you could guess. The left has more space where the bench is.

Lovely but we need more pictures of the cars, particularly the plans for the Alfa 105! smile
