Feelander 2 servicing

Just had our Freelander 2 serviced at Guy Salmon - essentially an oil change after a year. The car's done just under 4k miles and yet the service cost was a staggering £430!!! For a car which was just under £20k!!! My Merc was half that with a V6 diesel unit - I asked why the servicing bill was so high and was fed some BS about it being a 4x4, so how come you can buy a BMW X5 and pay for the servicing up front for 3 years for a measly £505 or include maintenance (Brake pads, Wipers etc) for £1k.

I love the Freelander and wanted to trade up to a Disco 3 but with servicing costs like that - I think I'm going to get car with a blue propellor next!
