I fancy getting dirty now, as well as perfecting balance and throttle control - so I figured some good off-road training would be valuable and fun.

Any recommendations of which places would be best to go to, utilising someone else bike of course!

TIA

Err dunno really, just handling difficult surfaces like mud and keeping the bike upright sort of stuff really.

The only thing that comes to mind is the training in Wales that Charley and Ewan did, kind of general rough terrain handling.

Id like to find out about these BOAT (byway open to all traffic) thingummys in somerset. There must be some near me that would be a fun try.. after all my bike is a dodgy dirt bike clone.

All the big manufacturers run offroad schools, most are more aimed at motorcross than green laning but the same skills still apply. I had a go on a WR250 on a track they had set up at the NEC show and loved it. Thinking of doing the Yamaha school ('cos they run one quite close to me in Winchester) to learn a bit and then getting myself a little 250 for some green laning.

I've done the Yamaha Experience in Wales, a few years back now, and its a nice gentle beginners day imo, nothing too tricky or scary. Choice of machines to use too, from DT12R to WR450 beastie. I used the TT250, its got a good balance of power and control imo.

The course they take you on isn't exactly thrilling, or long, but for a taster day its well run and controlled, and the bikes were all in good fettle.

I've been to the Yamaha off road experience twice now and have nothing but praise for it. The Jones clan that run it are all really experienced guys and excellent riders. They also ride to your experience/level too, so you can ride as fast or slow as you want. If you want to get into/try enduro riding then I'd go for this one.

If you would prefer to try Motocross then this this place in cardiff is also really good,

I did a week's training down there with Mark Thomas and Mark Jones (British Motocross rider) and although it was knackering it was excellent and improved my riding no end.

Both these courses above are not cheap though unfortunatley!!
