Not a great deal of joy on the Griffith forum with this so apologies for the non-Chimaera nature of this post (still we're all in it together eh?!):

Leccy windows don't work (stuck down). They both went at once so I'm assuming the fault is in the common circuit. Fuse is OK. Is there a common relay/earth or something else obvious that could have failed?

Cheers...

There's an ECU which looks after the windows. Could be buggered

I assume neither will raise.

Best luck

Edited coz I was thinking about Tuscans....D'oh!!

Not sure about Griffs. Worth looking at Steve Heath's bible for answers!

Are you saying they both worked ok downwards but do not want to go up?

Yes. I checked the windows, they both went up and down perfectly. I bought the car. After a 100 mile drive home with both windows down (actually about an inch off the very bottom of their travel) neither will shift up or down! Any ideas?

You say they are an inch off the bottom eh?

My windows get a bit pinched at the bottom, due to all the gubbins at the bottom of the door. Have you tried pulling them up with your finger on the switch. Sometimes mine get kinda stuck and this seems to work.

Good luck

Cannot comment too much on Griff windows but assuming that they are similar to my Chim, they use Cavalier switches? Since you have the same problem on both windows I would assume the windows are fine and either the supply or earth has gone missing. I would pull out one of the switches and check there is a live supply there, probably the most likely cause of your problem. The live supply should be Red, Red with a tracer will be a live from dashlights to illuminate the switch. These two are towards the centre of the switch. If the live is not there, then check the fusebox I would guess there will be a single fuse for both, probably 25/30A. If you suspect and earth problem then check the two black wires to the sides of the switch. The two pins furthest apart are the motor wires.

Outside chance, if you have window raisers connected to your alarm this could also have something to do with it. Good luck!

Cheers Guys, that gives me something to be going on with. A full electrics overhaul is on the cards anyway - I guess I've got to start somewhere...

Can I just (gently) lever the switches out? (They are Cavalier ones - at least they look like the ones in my Calibra from years ago)?

You should be able to, they are clipped in just like the vauxhall ones so gentle persuasion should bring them out!

Yes, chances are that the holes are not that good a fit so you can yank them out just by grabbing them, no hammers or crow bars required
