Hi all

I have posted this in the GG forum but thought i should post it here too:

Ok I am torn between selling my current car or keeping it and was wondering whether the masses can help me with the decision.

I currently have a 2003 BMW 320D, I have had the car for a year and love it. Its the right colour, right spec, its the right car but recently I have started to get a bit worried about the whole turbo failure issues and therefore starting to think about selling it. Part of me wants to keep the car and run it for another year or so until it gets to about 150k. (Currently its just over a 100k) The other part of me thinks I should sell it and get another but have to settle for the fact that I may not get one that will match the colour spec of my current car.

So the question is do I need to worry about the turbo issues on my current car, if I do keep it what preventative measures can I take to safeguard me from the turbo failure. If I do sell the car I will be looking at replacing it with another 320D and possibly getting it remapped by a reputable company (I would have got my current car remapped but worried about reliability) or alternatively look at a 330D.

Oh forgot to add current car is a march 03

the blown turbo can be aparently avoided by changing the breather pipes.
you might also be in the swirl flap injesting club too.

it's a real shame to have 2 weaknesses on a car that can always make you a little concerned about it.

firstly i'd get the breather pipes changed to keep them free running, and maybe have a search for "swirl flap" in the BMW Gen section, as i have a feeling not every 320d is affected. Better to be on top of it now so you know where you stand

and once your turbo blows a comet could fall from the sky and hit you on the head..............

I dont understand it when people spend their lives worrying about what might happen, why not enjoy it while it lasts?

In the meantime, keep it properly maintained, look after it and enjoy it, who knows what state any replacement will be in and there is no guarantee.

How much is a new turbo compared with the cost to change?
