New fuel tanks
Discussion
Had a great Driving Adventures trip to Germany and Austria - until the Wedge started peeing fuel in an underground hotel carpark (manager not too happy about that)probably lost a litre or two before it stopped.
Want to replace both tanks on the 430se, but am having great difficulty in locating any. Richard Thorpe can't help. Don't mind aluminium or steel. Anyone any ideas?
cheers

Bob,
Very sorry to hear of your troubles in Germany..
Not heard of anyone having wedge tanks ready made and off the shelf but there are several companies who will make them as a one off but will probably need your old tanks to model them with :

Tanks from 1982 .. might be as bad as what he wants to replace.. IMHO.If you go the coating route, and since you can't see what you're doing coating on the inside of the tank, leaving it to a pro is probably better.
But that said, these folks make a incredible product - I never used it on a gas tank, but have restored metal flower pots, a copper washtub and my Jag's windshield washer reservoir that was shattered.

On the earlier Wedges removal of the N/S tank is possible by just removing exhaust/trailing arm etc. Removal of the O/S tank is more difficult and involves lifting and/or cutting the body, this is due to the filler neck. Not sure what's involved on later Wedges. I had some stainless tanks made for mine a few years ago. Personally on a Wedge I'd rather have them made from stainless than Aluminium.

So Bob noww has half the range then ?
Spoke to David Batty last night and he has had the tank refurbished. Says it looks like new. Changing all the hoses too. Hope to pick it up on Monday, just in time to take her to Normandy for a long weekend with the Surrey group. Will find out who did the repairs.
