bigger engine or tune up

i have a 4.0 chimaera and was wondering what is best ,convert my engine to a 4.6 by buying a modded engine from some one like v8 developements or having my 4.0 power increased . idealy i would like to buy a 5.0 but they are not in my price range ,so would fitting a bigger engine give me the extra power and would i need to change anything else or are the brakes the same for 4.0s and 5.0s ,also would this mod affect the value of the car in a negative way ,has anyone done this ,the car is a 94 with the later gearbox and pre serp engine .

Use the Search on Forums for Chimaera and insert "upgrades" - I have inserted one short-cut of the topics which, IMHO, has been done to death - The Bible also has loads of info.

Trading for a 500 is the cheap option. The other options may seem cheaper, but that's only because you haven't factored all the hidden costs! This is even before you take into account the insurance issues - a 400 tweaked to 500 performance is a heck of a lot harder to insure than a 500.
In general, if you're after more power them increasing the capacity is the best approach if you can. And the best way to increase the capacity is to trade for a car that has the engine you want. This isn't *always* possible and whatever engine you start with you stand to make useful gains by a careful choice of induction mods and a good setup. Personally, I would recommend you talk to Tim Lamont (ACT) and Mark Adams if you take this route. But if you're are significant power gains you really should be looking for a bigger engine as a starting point, and other things being equal the best way to do this is to trade up.
