Has anyone had problems in removing the old steering rod and wheel atatchment from a r300. I wanted to fit a quick release tube but the old tube only pulls out 4-5 inches and then stops. Feels quite solid and wont budge. I removed all the clamp etc but no joy. Please advise

It'll budge if you pull it hard enough....

Nice theory and believe me I did think of trying that but was put off pulling any harder as I had visions of the dash coming away with it like one of those cigar adverts from the 80's. Do you think the clamp has made the end of the tube go out of round or is there a retaining circllip or something.

Just be careful when you are pulling up as you can easily loose your teeth when the wheel finally comes out.... The bush in the chassis has a little rubber lug to locate it and it takes a lot of force to pull it through.

Much easier to have everything undone and then to use a ratchet strap around the steering wheel and FIA bar (with something to protect the surfaces) and the wheel will easily come off as you give the ratchet a couple of turns.

Thanks for you help, it worked. I see what you mean about those rubber lugs. It took a lot of force to pull free of the chassis tube. Another good reason to own a ratchet strap.
