Ginetta G50 @ 2008 Zolder 24h
Discussion
Last weekend 3 Ginetta G50's participated in the 2008 Zolder 24h, a race that is part of the Belgian GT Championship.
Unfortunately none of them reached the finish line, all suffering from the same problem; a cooling problem at the rear axle.
On two others a part of the rear axle melted away, on this #350 (driven by Brith drivers Lawrence Tomlinson, Richard Dean, Danny Watts & Nigel Moore) there was a short but heavy fire caused by the same problem. I was able to take a few pics of the car that caught fire while running at full speed.
Pics of the 3 cars while they were still running...

Hi Joel
Thanks for the dramatic photos of the G50.
The cars did not all suffer from the same problem; all three had separate unrelated issues which resulted in different failures (although the result of a dnf was the same!)……….. mainly small issues that are all easily addressable.
Regards
Lawrence

Thanks for the info Lawrence, I based myself on the reports I've read after the race; proves they can't always be trusted. Just checked your profile, so you're actually 'the' Lawrence Tomlinson... a pleasure to meet you here!
It was definately one of the nicer cars on the track, I was a bit disappointed when it felt out so dramatically... luckily I was able to take some nice pics during the practice and qualifying sessions on Wednesday and Thursday. Just too bad I couldn't get close enough to the cars to take some detailed pics, pitlane appeared to be always closed except for Wednesday morning.

Still - not a complete disaster given the new-ness of the car (and the leaps that the LNT organisation has made with regards pushing the G50 into a lot of racing opportunities)...
Now, if Lawrence fancies lending me the road version for a weekend, I'd be more than happy to give an unbiased write up for PH (purely out of the goodness of my heart & all that!). And it'd do wonders to cheer up my neighbours who have now got used to the G20 so something different would be great.
(Lawrence - if you're monitoring the thread - I'm happy to come and collect from the factory...)

I don't think you'd be the only one that'd be prepared to do this Michael! - All purely, of course, for the benefit of the PH users. I really do think an article about the road G50 is needed here - perhaps and male and a female perspective?! And all I was going to ask for was the loan of a car next year to go sprinting....unless I get the G22 finished of course!Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
