Possibly looking at buying a new toy. I've had a Mondeo ST24 and currently own a ST220.

The ST24 developed a strange engine ticking noise which after changing water pump power steering pump we discovered that the problem seem to be one of the timing chain tensioners that was at fault, didn't fix it because car was not worth it but still driving to this day and that was 4 years ago.

Thankfully the ST220 no problems and it's a fantastic family car.

But theres a few guys in the Ford forum having engine problems so i was wondering how different the engines are from the Ford to the Noble and has anyone had problems.

Love the Noble fantastic looking car and it's great value for money but a bit apprehensive because of what I've read and know.

55K on my 2.5. Timing chain tensioners failed at 40K (ratchet mechanism worn out, so had to pump up fully every time engine started).

This has occured on some Noble engines and was covered recently on this thread (assuming it's the same issue): http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

some of the M400's had problems with dodgy piston rings and oil breathing issues. Mine being one of them! Mine was sorted under warranty but I suspect there are a few out there that haven't been spotted as it was'nt something that became obvious unless you tracked the car. Generally though I think the M400's are pretty reliable.

+1--just reached that mark myself (including ~ 10 track days) and no issues whatever.

dave_ST220 on the Ford forum has his engine go at 1300 miles.

I'm helping him get it sorted with Ford. Who are being cocks over it.

Hi Vesuvius 996 have been monitoring Dave ST220 thread closely because of owning the same car although mine has covered 37000 miles and is an 04 plate.

If i do end up buying a Noble it's going more than likely be from the classifieds rather than garage and it will probably be an M12 2.5 unless a cheaper 3 comes along, but i've got wait until early next year so just gauging things at the moment.

You can buy a warranty that is pretty good (from Kerridges I think?) if you're a pessimist.
