3.5 should see you a nice car. The problem with GTs is they rot like nothing else (for some reason far worse than roadsters, maybe they just get neglected more) so buy a solid one, it's better to have one with a split mint body shell and a shafted engine and interior than a car that looks nice and is mechanically solid (as most are) but with hidden rot.
Lol sorry motortrade talk. Split mint = Really tidy.
BGTs love to rot out:
Sills, castle sections, edge of floors where they meet sills.
The back wings rot along the top and round the wheelarches.
Trumpets running along top of inner wing. Round headlamp bowls.
Round windscreen frame.
Boot floor.
If they are all solid (not cleverly filled!) then it should be a good shell.
If your in any doubt about your abilities to inspect the car then get someone to inspect it for you, I do inspections inside Yorkshire and as a guide tend to charge circa £100 for any relatively local including full report. Which works out cheap when you consider a rotten B can run in to 3k to restore without even scratching the surface.
But don't be scared of them, if you get a good one (and there are plenty out there) and look after it then it should last you out, very tough and solid car, it's only neglect that kills them.
I would also say at the moment it's a bit unusual pricing wise and I'm seeing a lot of B and Midgets that are fetching pretty similar price either chrome or rubber bumper, the differential that usually exists isn't there at the moment, but I would still prefer a good r/b car than a ropey c/b car.

I may have just the car for you. I would have put it on the classified site weeks ago but somehow just did not find the time. Perhaps I will get some time this weekend. The photo's have been on my computer for weeks, as I did advertise it in my classic car clubs magazine. Its a 1972 tax exempt GT with stage 2 unleaded head, weber carb, alloys, etc. It has had some welding over the years with panels replaced as one might expect for a car of its age. Anyway, have a look at the adds as I promise it will be there before Monday. Its £3000 no offers by the way. I'm in Devon which may be out of your way as I don't know where you are.
PS I am nearing the end of working on my last purchase which is why I am selling after 11 years of ownership.
