It was on the rolling road last week for mapping and at.8 of a bar of boost it made over 390bhp and 220 lbft at fly wheel with a target boost 1.7 to 2 bar.

Am I the only one disappointed to find that it's only the turbo from an F1 engine?

I was kind of hoping it had a Honda V6 Turbo / BMW 4-pot turbo or similar with anything up to 1200bhp.

A 1200bhp Dax Rush? You would need a nappy on your head and penciles in your ears to drive one of those!

Yeah, me too. I'm not too sure it's such a big claim to fame to just have the turbo....

Still, the figures look impressive.

I guess one of those turbos would be a pretty good match for the busa engine, when you think about the displacement and rev-limit compared to an F1 engine of the same era. Does anyone know what kind of specs (inducer and exducer size, a/r ratios etc) they used, and whether Garrett make anything similar "off the shelf"?

If they are testing it at only 0.8 bar of boost I am sure there are plenty of more conventional turbos that could be used.

"F1 Turbo" makes a flashy headline but I don't think it makes the car any more special than it is already. It's a pretty impressive/outlandish engine bay.

...and how has turbo technology moved on in the 20 years since, what was cutting edge back then is likely to be mainstream these days.

An impressive car none the less.

I would have liked to have used a complete F1 engine, but would have to have shaked the piggy bank a little bit harder, the reason for using the F1 turbo is because it's extremely light and I have a large selection of different size exhaust and compressor housings to try. Here are a couple of photos from Geoff Page's workshop where he works on a lot of the F1 1500 Heart, V6 Cosworths, Jaguar XK220 and some of the Group B Rally engines.

Pah that's nothing hehe I was at holeshot last year and they had a 500bhp turbo busa fitted into a westy that was used for drag racing. Jack was building a 700bhp version for his land speed busa attempt and the plan was to fit the same spec engine to the westy giving approx 1400bhp/ton!!
