First Big Service for the Nera over the last weekend, and time for a new chain and sprockets (ouch..)

Service went well, but succumbed to cheapskateness, and had Renthal chain and sprockets, rather than the unobtanium it was originally fitted with. Does anyone really think that £150 for a rear sprocket is reasonable, and, more to the point, that anyone south of Valentino would be able to feel the 50g weight difference?

(Although according to the workshop chaps it was really ridiculously light)

That sounds ridiculous.

I bought a custom aluminium rear sprocket from B+C express for £40 - it was half a kilo lighter than the standard steel one.

(by custom, I mean they use a standard blank and machine the centre to fit your specific sprocket carrier).

£150 sounds steep.

Blimey Marcus how many miles have you put on that thing, I've done just on 20k on the Gixxer and it's still on the original chain and sprockets!

Perhaps I ride like a girl scratchchin

Nowt wrong with Renthal. I put that on my RSV-R.

Mine was a bit heavy on chains/sprockets, too. It must be that instant grunt.

My Renthal was £35 or so. Front steel sprocket was £12 and the X ring chain was £86 or so. If £150 was for chain and both sprockets inc fitting then that's not too bad.

£150 was for the rear sprocket only. Needless to say, the Renthal plus fitting was in the same region.

Must admit I forgot to ask for the old one. Ho hum. It probably floated off when a light breeze went through the workshop smile

Mileage is 6 and a bit thousand, and yes, it is heavy on the grunt, and used in anger.

I did succumb to unobtanium blingness at a bike show, once, for my Aprilia. Whoever had changed the front in the past seemed to have undone the axle nut with a cold chisel!

To replace it, I bought a titanium nut, which seemed to weight less than the plastic packaging it came in and cost £17.00!

I've just done a 520 conversion using Renthal Sprockets. On my 4th set of chain Sprockets with approximately 26,000 miles on clock.

Anyone else ever done the 525 to 520 conversion and did they notice a difference. I did the conversion on Saturday. Not ridden the bike since coming back from Folembray and a tour through Belgium about 4 weeks ago. S swear I can feel it picking up quicker and revving a bit higher. I've changed to the same I had on with the 525 setup being 16 front 42 rear.

Or am I just imagining it?

Just next to the contrarotating three eights Gripley, unless your reciprocator is metric.

http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Sprocket

Sprocket is an intelligent sheepdog owned by Doc on Fraggle Rock. He spends much of his time in Doc's Workshop, where his bed and food dish are, observing Doc at work. As a result, he often catches Gobo in the act of retrieving a discarded postcard from Uncle Traveling Matt. Sprocket proves the adage that dog is a man's best friend. Though Sprocket is occasionally perplexed by Doc's eccentric behavior and odd inventions, the two are inseparable. Sprocket accompanied Doc when he rented Ma Bear's cottage in A Muppet Family Christmas.

Though generally unable to speak words, Sprocket communicates with his owner through a series of lively barks, facial expressions, and particularly pantomime, pointing to objects or using a form of charades. Doc often relies on Sprocket in performing household labor, including repairs on the water pipes.

Sprocket is initially less enamoured of Doc's neighbor Ned Shimmelfinny, but gradually warms up to him. The same can't be said of his relationship with Ned's cat, Fluffinella. Though Sprocket teases Doc about Ms. Ardath, the dog himself, who always had a thing for airedales, is not immune to romance, once falling in love with Ms. Ardath's dog Marigold.

Like most dogs, Sprocket is suspicious of Gobo, the strange creature who scampers in and out, barking fiercely at him. In other episodes, he attempts to board up or break into the hole in the wall. Sprocket frequently tries to make Doc aware of the Fraggles, but his efforts are generally for naught. As the series progresses, however, after receiving Gobo's aid in a tight spot, Sprocket befriends the Fraggles, and redoubles his efforts to tell Doc.

Outside of Fraggle Rock, Sprocket was prominently featured in A Muppet Family Christmas and appeared as a member of the Organization of Muppet Dogs in episode 110 of The Jim Henson Hour. He was also part of the chorus of dogs singing "I'm Doggin' It" with Rowlf in The Muppets at Walt Disney World. Sprocket made a cameo appearance in the very beginning and the final crowd scenes of The Muppet Christmas Carol, dressed in a suit. He also appears briefly in Muppet Treasure Island in the early pub scenes.
