From MCN.

The new motorcycle test has been delayed six months due to a shortage of test centres.

The new test was due to be introduced from September 29 but has now been pushed to March 30 next year. The news is an eleventh-hour reprieve for learners clamouring to do the current test.

Chaos had loomed for learners taking the new test due to a drastic shortage of necessary test centres. Just 39 were expected to be ready in time, replacing around 260 existing test sites.

The Driving Standards Agency said the decision to delay would allow it to “carry on delivering motorcycle tests from a wider range of centres whilst working with motorcycle groups and to find a suitable solution for providing the new test service in problem locations.”

It comes after the Motorcycle Industry Association met with road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick to push for a delay.

The association’s policy director, Craig Carey-Clinch, said: “They made the right decision.”

I guess the current 100% pass rate may tumble a bit then given the breathing space smile

Hope not got my test at the end of the month. At least there's plenty of time for a re-test if things go pear shaped now.

If it was a woman I'd tell him to ditch her and get a bike asap, far less trouble yes

One of my friends was at the meeting with the DSA tonight and the testers, said there was alot of plssed people who wanted to lynch the govt guys.

A lot of guys have lost money because of the rule change in not being able to book the normal amount of people as usual, so are not happy campers...

We had a huge rally up here protesting against the changes, local MP's involved and this is the first I've heard of it and it seems the same on our club forum!

I suspect the DSA have their tails between their legs over this one rage

This would help to explain the application I've just seen for the DSA attempting to milk the new site in South Cambs for every hour under the sun (and moon). They are trying to extend the site's hours to 7.30am - 7.30pm 7 days a week 365 days a year.

My guess is they're getting desperate at their inability to secure enough relacement sites, and even with the extra 6 months this announcement gives them, will still be struggling to find enough capacity to cover for the number of existing sites available for the 'old style' test.

Who fancies doing their test at 7.30pm in the dark, in the dead of winter? Not sure I would if I had to take mine again.
