can a short shifter help me

Do you think a short shifter would help me with my problem with the distance of movement between gear in and in neutral and changing between gears.I have a e46 325ci sport and want to put a smg gear surround chrome dome.But have tried it and wont change gear as the chrome dome stops it.

Thanks, I have ordered a short shifter to reduce the travel distance hope its enough so i can actually change gear.As the smg gear surround is so cool and want to keep it.If anyone can tell me if i am doing it right or there is another way please let me know.Thanks

Short shifter will reduce forward/backward travel normally 20% so measure it before you shell out £200,
