Couldn't find this anywhere else..

OK, so it's in the mail, but...
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1054636/Un...

How long does your Driving License last for?
Till You're 70?
Wrong...
Do you know that your Driving License only lasts for 10 years? (The Photocard bit, anyway)

The License expires at the date helpfully shown as 4b on the license below..

... which means that if your license was one of the original batch, it will run out about... now.... and could land you with £1000 fine.

Edit: I mean the photocard portion, not the whole thing. Its what I meant when I typed it, honest.

I think the old paper ones last until you're 70?

The DVLA bods will send you an application form 2 months before your license expires. You have to return form with current Passport style photo and include £17.50 stealth tax payment.

If they think you are worthy they will send youa new one.

Do they really think it will take 2 months ? No license for 2 months.

I've only got an old paper one! You don't need to have a new card one do you??

I suspect it depends on your age when the licence is applied for or details changed.

I recently changed address and received a photocard licence instead of my previous paper one. The new licence expires in 2018. I don;t know how this could be "without me knowing" as it's clearly printed on the front.

Its printed on the front, it also tells you in the info pack you recieve with your new license, it should also be explained to you by your examiner when taking your test (if a new driver) well mine did anyway.

I don't have my license with me so not sure when it expires but when I changed address about 1 year ago I also changed the photo for an update. I can’t remember exactly but on the form it mentioned sending ne photos in and they would change them. So I did this, new pics sent and now have new license with a new picture update for £0.

Not much help but I’m going to look at my license over the weekend and see what it says

Just carefully unfolded my green paper licence (well its getting a bit tattered now). Expiry 03-11-2037 . None of this new fangled plastic nonsense for me ! I wonder if at some point I will be fined for licence tax avoidance ;-)

Passport is a lot more than £50 now.

Plus if you get married, when the wife requests a new passport you have to pay for the full price of a new 10year one, regardless on the amount of time left on the existing passport. My wife had 7 years left on hers. frown

Mines end of 2012, only noticed as i lost my license (physically misplaced it) and applied for another - i needed to sort out getting the 3 points removed anyway so it wasnt a pain, just forced me to do it.

2012 - i'll probably forget.

Just had to renew mine. Rip off in my humble opinion (and I know I'm being lazy, but a pain in the ar5e when you have to find a Passport Photo place too).

It even goes from being a colour photo to black and white.
