My idle problem : www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=58168&f=12&h=0

The Haynes Manual for the Range Rover (donor) says that the ECU for the 4.0lt Hot-wire engine has a +12v output to the fan (pin 36). I wonder whether the lack of an otter switch is compensated for by this - which I imagine is triggered by the coolent temperature input (pin 7).

I found this out when studying the presence of an input to the ECU from the speed transducer in the speedo cable, which is mentioned in the Haynes Manual as likely to affect engine idle speed.

Complicated things aren't they? I could understand a side valve engine with a carburetor .

You think this is complicated? Try the closed-loop injection/ ignition of something like the Renault 25 (Renix) system. When it works, it's bloody superb. When anything fails, it's a nightmare... at least the Lucas system will try to get you home when it breaks.
