This is just speculative at this time. Are there good discounts to be had on new X5s? Are BMW dealers finding it tough at the moment? Would be looking a a diesel M Sport.

Many thnaks

Massive discount, but worst time in the world ever to buy one. If you go and buy a new one from a dealer with your hard earned at the moment you either have far too much money, need your head checking, or enjoy crippling residual values. Do you have 'any' idea how much metal like this is dropping per month? I'll give you a clue, there's four numbers in the figure you are looking for.

Could be a great time to get one on a PCP or lease.

I too am looking to buy an SUV
OK heres what Ive discovered from a few weeks spent visiting dealers..........

Audi Q7 - Possibly my top choice
My local dealer group are not selling any new, they have just cancelled their demo as there is no demand
They have a forecourt of S/H ones most at full sticker price, the most recent ones are even marked over what I can buy a new one at through a broker
Even so they will not entertain talk of a discount - Id imagine selling none new and having 12 that I can count on the yard may soon change this

Disco3 - another contender
Top spec HSE 45k list, 38k from a broker or 28k at a dealer with an 08 plate
Value at 3 years a bit scary but possibly more sell-able then than a V8 Q7
Reliability a worry

X5 - not really interested
But talked to dealer, has waiting list new so no discount !!!!!!!but group not taking them as PX as they cant shift them and make a profit. He admitted this state of affairs was confusing

XC90 - outside contender
Havent spoken to a dealer but all recent S/H stock is way more expensive than I can buy new from a broker. Also all stock is band G whilst a new model from the broker has the new band F engine
From valvo website GFV at 3 years is 33% of list which is poor, although possibly par for the course

Cayenne - not a chance smile
Stunning bargains to be had, but I just dont want one

Go out and chat to some dealers and report back on this thread

Im looking at a 6-12 month old one, whichever, but just cant find enough courage to buy yet

I suspect Christmas may be a good time to bag a bargain - possibly next Crimbo not this smile

I badly 'need' an SUV, but its just too scary at the moment

cheers

Thinking about leasing it but agree with your point about residual values too. Like I said merely speculative at this time.

Is there a reason why you badly need to look like a small time property developer?

Thank you for your comment

I probably agree with your derisory comment about saddo property developers

However:

1) I often need to transport my family inc kids inc disabled mother in law plus wheelchair. This posse does not fit into my regular car since the MIL started living with us after her stroke

2) I need to tow

3) We live down a 1/2 mile unadopted road which is regularly afected by snow in winter and often washed out by flood water this last 2 summers

Under these circumstances its either a Discovery 3 (arguably unreliable) or a Q7/X5

Id love to hear you suggest an alterative

Cheers

Mate just swapped his X5 3.0d for 4.2tdi s-line Q7 a month or two ago and tried to get a bid on it, it cost him £64k and his best bid was, £42k, only 2 dealers even wanted to bid on it. So I am sure they will haggle if you really want one.
He has decided to live with it as he can't loose over £20k in a couple of months.

What does he find so bad about the Q7 that he wanted to dump it after 2mths?

I've heard nothing but good things about the reliability of Disco 3.

Nah never again for me,might just of had a rogue ? but the fact that they left my wife stranded in a field on a sunday morning for 3 hrs, then gave her a KIA to do the work of her Disco, and then refused to drop her "repaired" vehicle off ......i could go on,at least any probs with the Bm's have always been sorted soapbox

Was thinking exactly the same thing. 4x4 bashing seems quite popular on here lately.

An X5 is not for me but I'd defend his right to have one just as I'd defend someone elses right to have a sports car to a tree hugger.

We are supposed to be motoring enthusiasts (whatever form that takes). If we can't stand united in our love of all things petrol (or diesel) powered what chance do we have against the lentilists?

i was looking at an X6 last week. brand new car, cancelled order, priced at £52,250, offered to me at £6k off after much consideration. still turned it down. if you need such a car (x5, disco, rrsport etc) or just want one, my suggestion is to play the hard game with the dealers. you will get significant discount if you persevere. this discount by the way was after the salesman was adamant they don't do discounts because they don't need to...

That's interesting - BMW UK were saying that the entire next 12mths allocation of X6's were sold out.

Sure, but if they really are sold out you'd think they'd have people biting their hands off at list.

+1

You should be able to get 6% a starting discount - I could get this last year before the current slowdown (thats on any BM). Their gross margin will hang around 15% I suspect.
