A mate has seen a newer SL500 for sale so is interested in selling his K-reg one. Problem is he's only been offered about 10k for his.. it's done 80k miles and is in pretty good condition.

It's worth sooooooooo much more than 10k to him... VW Polo or second hand convertible with hard-top and a 5litre V8...

He's looking at a T reg with 35k, up for about £30k

Is it worth going for the newer car? What sort of mileage are the SL500's engine good for? 150k?

Is there much of a market? Would he be inundated with calls if he advertised it in Autotrader? What would be a fair price (parkers doesn't go back enough).

Cheers all. Rico

The R129 SL500 has been noticably improved over the years with a restyle in 96/7 softening the razor edged front. In 1996 a 5 speed auto with electronic sensors and brake assist introducted, ESP optional,ADS optional, climate control rather than airconditioning. Panoramic roofs are a nice option to have, makes the interior lighter.
The value of any Mercedes is in the servicing history. I would be very wary of buying any Mercedes without the MB Signature warranty.Even a full MB service history is no guarentee that you wont experience problems.Go on the Autotrader internet site and do a search for MB SL's you will be amazed at the number and variety for sale and a good indication of values. MB did make 179,743 before production ended. A few to choose from!
