running engine whilst 'off the road'
Tuesday 23rd September 2003
As my car is off the road due to waiting for a clutch replacement, would you suggest starting the engine in the garage to keep the internal workings 'lubricated', instead of just leaving it stood?
I have no problem with the battery as i've just purchased a trickle charger from Leven.
What do you suggest?
Cheers.

How long will it be off the road? If it is 4 weeks or less then I wouldnt bother. anymore than that and I would probably start her up and take it through a heat cycle or two (ie about 15 mins or so). Will annoy the neighbours as well!

Hi Gazzab.
I thought I'd get a reply from you. You are always helpful in the forums. You seem to spend more time on your computer than me.
Its been off the road now for just over 3 weeks. Waiting for Joolz to get the parts. I guess maybe another couple of weeks.
Thanks again.

Me on here all the time!!?? Gulp - working in IT Mgmt (for a large ins co) means that I am always at a computer and so find myself flicking over 'now and again'.

I would leave it, unless you are going to leave it off the raod for a really long period of time.
I did always wonder about an invention to spray a little oil into the top of the engive just before start up to avoid top end cold start wear.

I've just had it running for 10 mins, and switched it off. Started fine. A few fumes, a little soot, but ok after a cpl of mins. Hope its ok.
