What would be a realistic cost to change from an 07 320D se touring with 22k miles to a 55 X5 4.8iS with 22k miles at BMW dealership at 23k?

Well I would ay that X5 is over priced by £3k anyway, there is one at Knights BMW in Staffs. for £19950 which you would get for £19k the way things are.

And I would expect your trade in to be around £13-14k for your car, £18k for a private sale.

I sold ny 57 plate 320d M-Sport in 24 hours on autotrader online last week, price it right and it will go.

Have your circumstances changed dramatically that you no longer need a diesel?

Expect your fuel bills to triple with the 4.8is

Also, if you really must have one, be aware they will de-value like snow dropping off a ditch for two reasons...

(a) the new model e70 is becoming more readily available
(b) the e53 is looking old in comparison
(c) large petrol engined 4x4s will struggle to find homes

Personally, i´d buy one on a PCP residual deal - BMW are offering decent residual values which would take the risk out of the purchase.

Now me an pgilc1 always argue over PCP vs lease purchase but in this case I would agree 100%, that car will be a mare to get rid of in 12-18 months time.

I don't think you'd have any choice??!! smile

Mate had a 4.8is and it is a lovely car, but he only used to to drive up and down to London from Norfolk and it still only got 17mpg, round town it was down to 12mpg at best, that would kill it for me.

Had a Cayenne S previously so no stranger to high running costs and the X5 would have to depreciate by ~17k in 9 months tobe as bad as the Cayenne. 320d is an extremely competent but ultimately pretty boring car. Don't do masses of private driving and comapny journeys are covered. Need something bigger than the 320 but don't fance a 5 -series. WAs originally toying with the idea of Cayenne turbo so the X5 is actually a 'sensible' choice. Just want to get some idea of how much movement there is in the dealer price.
