tatty is not that huge a deal as i will be stripping and replacing everything that is worn.

I have seen 7-8 fireblades under 2k, dunno if i will be ableto find a r1 for that tho.

Rather than stripping and replacing every worn part why not just save up a bit more and get a better example? Tyres, suspension, brakes etc soon add up to silly money.

if you are looking for around that budget i would say get an R1 for sure, its a better bike than Fireblades of that era and you will enjoy it more, if you can find an extra £1000-£1500 i would say get the 954 Fireblade, that was possibly one of the best bikes ive ever owned and i would have another.

ZX10R is out of reach for that budget but what about a ZX9R? Can be picked up for next to nothing now and they fly. Look for 98 onwards as the older ones were a lot heavier and slower but the 98 on models are faster than an R1 of the same year.

ive ridden a ZX9R briefly, it was quite a while ago but my memory of it was it had more enough power it just didnt seem to like corners that much, wether it was that particular bike or if thier like that i dont know.
