After numerous miles in the 350i, my steering column drops enough for me to notice and re adjust the setting. Is this normal on during bumpy excursions(Country lanes) or is it a concern to be fixed. I cannot see anything obvious wrong.

Do the locking knob up tighter?

My 400 did this. The locking knob always seemed to work loose. Only solution was to tighten it seriously. It did come undone but lasted longer between loose bouts.

Locate some large 'star' washers or use a thread locking compound.

Mine does this; I have developed a useful ability to lift the steering column with my knee while driving....

On my Ford based steering column it's a lever not a knob and I suspect it engages a ratchet rather than friction (educated guess). It seems to be the side-to-side bouncing that makes it drop.

I'd love a solution, though I'd be quite happy to fix it permanently at it's upper most position if I have to.

The 520 has a lock nut on the other end. Get position with the normal twiddler and then lock nut on the other side.
