Just taken delivery of my first bike, a '97 Yam Thundercat (Silver & Yellow)
I don't have a garage so its going to be living on my driveway. I have a cover and all that gubins to keep her dry, but obviously want to keep it safe too.
I have a gravel drive and am thinking a ground anchor would be a good option, the kind where you dig a hole and cement it in. Then combine that with a nice heavy duty chain & lock.
Just interested in what you guys & girls use, and any horror stories where you've secured your bike and they've been pinched
Kind of an ad-hoc security device review thread if you will.....
Many thanks

I got a series 4 Almax chain which is mega huge and very mainly. and bloody heavy. I would go for the best chain and ground anchor you can get. mainly as you can use this for many years to come.
I would not suggest an alarm as they cost more than you save on the insurace. main reason why I did not get 1 for my New Speed triple. plus the price vs save on insurance was laughable

About 4 years ago i stupidly (and never forgive my self for it) decided my bike would be alright for one night outside my house it was a Honda CR250 full race spec crosser with no road legal markings at all. It also wasn't insured against theft as there were no form of security devices it didn't even need a key. I live in a quiet sleepy part of the north of Scotland where crime is very low and any crime the whole town hears about it!
I covered the bike up and tucked it into the shadows as i'd just finished a major service on it. Went out for a cigarette at 11pm and it was there, went out at half 12 before bed and the bike was gone. The cops said they probably rolled it down the hill straight into a van where it would be stripped en route to Glasgow or Dundee. I drove round for 2 hours that night raging and nearly in tears looking for kids ragging it over fields. My wife told the police they should find me before i found them otherwise they would be investigating murder. My pride and joy had been taken because i was a tt! and thought "it wont happen to me!"
It did happen so don't take any chances, if you can't garage it then bolt it to the floor

Slight hijack
When you stop at services for food/warm up do you put anything on like a disc lock, chain?
I've got my mammoth drive to Yorkshire next week and its going to be cold, hours and hours and lonely and the furthest in 1 day. I'll pack overnight stuff in case I wuss out half way Its only about 420 miles though.

My garage has bikes all chained to each other, to a ground anchor, garage is alarmed, security lights, Garage Defender and additional ASEC bolts. Given that I know from personal experience what the gap where a 6 month old GSXR Thou previously stood looks like (although that wasn't at home), I don't take chances.
It never gets parked in town any more either.
Presumably we're not giving too much away by relating these facts on here?

Rach, services will be where you're most at risk. If its not nailed down it'll go, bikes, caravans, lorries..... You know who we're talking about here, they dont mess about. When you stop at services for food/warm up do you put anything on like a disc lock, chain?

I'd consider chaining it up to a big fk off post. (If i could find one!)
