some american v max sites i have been looking at call the exhausts mufflers rather than silencers. our description of silencers isnt really very accurate is it? a v max silent? no its muffled.

laugh Well, we could call them 'subduers' or 'reducers' or something I suppose...

AFAIK Americans call silencers 'mufflers' on all cars, bikes etc.

You could argue a silencer on a gun should be called a suppressor (as some do), as you can still hear the gun

color/colour, trouser/pants, etc. just accept the fact that Americans are 'different/special'

USA speak is simplified English, essentially.
It's very logical, on the whole and if a letter in a word, or a word in a phrase isn't necessary, they generally leave it out.
'English for idiots' is how it is more harshly known!

One hundred twenty five mph. Leaving out the and.
Color.
Keep that bike on the pavement and off the sidewalk!
