classic bike value after modifications

do mild modifications like better shocks lower the value of a classic motorcycle like a v max? does it drop in value the moment you change anything at all or do improvements not have a bad effect on re-sale value? the yam really needs some new suspension and a new exhaust but to put stock stuff back on seems a waste of money.

Without meaning to denigrate your motorcycle, I wouldn't have thought a 1993 V-max was a classic (although it may well fall under a 'classic' insurance policy). Better shocks would surely increase the saleability (if not the value) of the bike.
