This time 255/35R18's £97.00 ish per corner for the rear. Goodyear F1's £150+ pc.
Yes they squirm and roll at HIGH speed, but a few extra PSI sorts out the majority of this, and TBH I've stopped driving at silly speeds these days.
Are there any other brands at similar costs to the Falkens that are better IYHO?

I would use the discount but wouldn't go anywhere near a monaro with Falken tyres.

yes

Doesn't matter if you d take it easy these days. With so many dheads on the roads these days you may need to take avoiding action. Tyres are the most important items on a performance vehicle IMO, and this is an area in which I would NOT make compromises.

If I had tyres that "squiggle and squirm" I'd avoid them like the plague.

I have to agree, don't be silly over a couple of quid, it is all down to load rates, ro's need good rubber to hold'em on the road.

I'd never have Falken 452s again, the grip on the rear was rubbish. I replaced mine with Goodyear eagle F1s and they are excellent by comparison and not too expensive.

I had falkens on my astra turbo a few years ago and was not impressed with the level of traction they gave and ended up having a accident in the end when having to brake in a emergency. so what price do you put on yours and other health or life???

Im with you there MyM8V8 ,
I fit Michelins every time and I’ve fitted 10 new tyres and my car has only done 14,000 miles. Who cares if they cost £500 a pair. Can’t see the point in saving a few quid and having the car handle and feel not as good as it should. And crap wet weather driving.
If you can’t afford a good quality brand tyre it’s better to buy a Fiesta and tyres will only cost about £50 each.
Can’t see why people want everything cheep and of a lesser quality when it comes to tyres. Maybe it’s time for some people to buy a car they can afford to run.
Saying that, the Pirelli’s do under steer like a bast***d in the wet lol
My Michelin’s are going to have a hard life from next week when I get my SC fitted.... Can’t wait.

Ok so useful advice from this question is Michelins last longer, but F1's grip well.
Will have a look round when the time comes.
Oh and with regard to being able to "afford" tyres, thanks for the advice, monaro up for sale on monday and will spend the money on a new fiesta as suggested.
It's not a case of what I can afford, more what value I can get for my money. If I bought the best I could afford all the time, I wouldn't be driving round in a ten grand Monaro......and neither would anyone else on this forum.

Michelins are more expensive, but I reckon last 25-30% longer (do the math) and easily perform as well as all of the usual suspects.

If you ask me, the clue is in the title.

Anything that involves tyres and the word "gamble" has to be a bad thing in my opinion.

Those 4 tiny patches of rubber are the only thing between you and the hedge/ditch/wall and, personally, I would pay to be confident in their abilities.

word of caution with F1's - great in dry and wet but a nono on snow ice due to the tread pattern

Guys! I hear what you say but some time ago in another thread I said I was going to give Falkens a good test and come back.

Gloucestershire roads are pretty crap! Seems we do not pay enough road tax to qualify for road mending.

So far no issues at all and I drive them very hard (four P Zero's canned twice over in 4,000 miles per set with no smoking them at all!).

I don't dispute that running 'on the edge' is going to find Falkens wanting but you are really going to have to push it!

Have to say that I have no experience on ice yet but I guess that is coming soon!

Another vote for Michelin here.

As it happens, got a part worn pair of PS2's cluttering up my garage if anybody wants to try them. Standard size for CV8 (18's). They're bloody expensive new, but an offer of a few beer tokens could secure these.

PM me if interested, and I'll try and get a few pic's..

I have found that Continental sport contacts last better than most and grip well.
