Just bought a 2002 320ci cab (please dont turn this into a should have got a 325 or 330 thread),i love the car 1 owner full history all the extras, the problem is a few times it has cut out when pulling up to lights or junctions, restarts straight away but then lacks power for a few seconds. seems to be when its warm and has been left for a little while. it has done it a couple of times when pulling off to but this could be down to me not being used to the car yet. so the car is going back to the garage next week to have a couple of stone chips sorted out, what should i get the garage to look at??

any help appreciated guys.

Thanks Darren

Could be an idle control valve problem.

Its the exhaust or inlet cam position sensor. You can have a diag done to identify.

Inlet one fails more for some reason. BMW have upgraded the replacement, it will be fatter than the one removed, but fits ok.

See here for guide to replacement.

My E36 318is did this a few years back, although it was slightly different in that it would restart but then cut-out again as soon as a load was applied. After a few restarts and attempts to get going it wouldn't start at all. The problem was a camshaft sensor.
