Just thought id share some pics of my M3 track car which I have been building over the last year.

As i brought it in Jan.

Started buying bits :-)

Then fitted the steering wheel and removed the carpets ready for the cage.

Fabricage custom bolt in rollcage fitted

Carpets re fitted, seats and harness's fitted and rollcage painted

Brakes and suspension and eisenmann exhaust fitted

Wheels refurbished and new tyres fitted

The finshed product, with black kidney grilles and sun visor fitted.

And at the ring where it acheived a 8.22 lap!!

Paul

Excellent lap-time! Are you an experienced ring'ster? Suprised you put the carpets back in to the car, but otherwise a nice build.

Not really been going for the past 5 years, guess ive done about 30ish laps now.

The reason for the carpets is to try and keep some creature comforts for the long journeys over to Germany, hence why it still has a stereo and air con too. The idea of the car is based on a gt3 clubsport!

VERY nice project there.. and very neatly executed too!

Did you consider a more integrated/weld-in cage? reasons/thoughts for/against??

Thanks

Yes did consider a weld in cage, but the only reason i didnt is becuase it couldnt be painted if it was welded in due to the interior remaining insitue!!

Great car; I was thinking before you commented that it was like an M3 version of a GT3. How much performance would actually be gained by removing the carpets, air-con etc.? I don't think the trade-off between weight and comfort wouldn't be worth it.

Thanks. To be honest iam not sure how much performance advantage there would be but i do know that the carpets weighed a ton when i took them out!!! still doing quick times though and in comfort so iam well happy

would it make it any more fun to be a few seconds quicker (if that), but be deaf and uncomfotable from the drive over.... nope.
I think it's done just right.. got it where it counts (grip, stop, go, secure location of driver, and a bit of saftey), and still usable as a car not just a toy.

I'd love to do something similar myself someday.....

Looks lovely. Nice and understated - apart from the yellow wink

looks really good, I'm hoping to do something similar with my evo for a trip to spa and the ring, although without the cage.

I've only got as far as thh H&R coilovers so far so i've got a fair bit more to do.

Very nice. With an M3 prepped like that I'd be tempted to give the Kumho BMW Championship a look...
