Complete electrical failure....

Just really looking for a pointers?
yesterday whilst driving home I switched on the wash wipes on my 2000 Accord vtec S. At this point all electrics failed, it was like switching off the engine ie no indicators, no nothing apart from the little light telling me that i've left the keys in the ignition. Luckily i was only doing 30!!
Pulled over, started the car and all was fine.
Could this be a random failure or am i looking at something a lot worst in the long run..?

Switch cost just over £50 from Honda and only took just over an hour to fix.
