Range Rover Vs Range Rover Sport

A fine pedigree in off road ability, a pretty well rounded image.
Erm that'll be both of them then Rangie - more "practical" (bigger boot, more passenger space) vastly more luxurious, based on older floorpan.
RR Sport - less practical, better looking (subjective), rather utilitarian interior belieing it's exterior looks, based on never Disco3, so heavier than the Rangie, but also better handling, though at the expense of some of the ultimate comfort.
You pays your money, you takes your choice.... personally I'd go for the Rangie every time - the Sport isn't enough of a Cayenne-chaser to be worth the compromise in space and luxury for me, nor the extra performace, as the same engine is available in both...

I drove a RR and RRS last week with a view to buy one. I drove the RRS first and found the refinement lacking - too noisy at motorway speeds and didn't like the ride (too bumpy and floaty in places). Then drove the RR and it had Merc S-Class refinement. It's (obviously) a completely different vehicle. No comparison other than the name. I'm coming from 6 years of new E-class Mercs and doing 25k+ miles pa so refinement is the number one factor for me.

Much nodding. Quite happy to pop to the shops in the Rangie, or crush continents, matters not it'll handle both equally well.RedLeicester said:

Another fan of the Rangie here, it will do the above plus much more, all with a great deal of panache. Mine lives in Switzerland at 1500m; snow a lot of the year, hillside tracks in the summer, popping back to London a few times a year, into Geneva or Gstaad for a smart evening out..... The interior really is a very nice place to be, and far nicer than the Sport.RedLeicester said:

As for none being in the country, try removing you blinkers and actually driving in the country, although TBH I agree that there are far too many in the cities, the natural progression from the awful BMW X5....I know, I had one!!
Envy
I am saying that the original range rover had what I said in my first post, imo the sport has none of this. And was a fantastic piece of marketing by land rover to appeal to all the types that brought down the image of the original.
And I am sure its made them a silly amount of money, because they realised that nobody bought the range rover for what it could do, just its imposing looks and the so called 'envy' of other drivers(I know some people bought them because of their ability ). So they have banged out a a version that has nothing in the grand scheme of things (bar looks) and they have pinned down the footballer-esque market, and have sold thousands.
And in regards to the countryside bit, I notice you live in Hants to, unless you have lived in a bit that I have not lived near (unlikely) then I would say the blinkers are all yours. And I can tell you that none of my parents neighbours have the sport, but they have land rovers of various guises in the garage.

I find that hard to believe, you being a Hants boy (something I categorically I am not - I come from richer blood lines - Surrey) and not seeing the millions (keyword) of RRS menacing the roads. It has definately sold by the bucket loads for LR, as you say. TBH, it is actually a victim of its own success and now bordering on common. The good news is it is still not as common as the dreadful HeX5, Toerag or not so bad Q7.
At the end of the day, the big daddy RR is never going to topple from its throne as the ultimate 4x4, but it is a close run thing with its baby brother being the most desirable, looks or whatever, there is no getting away from the fact that it is a great package.
As for ability - both the D3 and RRS knocks spots of the Daddy, plain and simple.

Its not a great package to me in the slightest.
Its common, laughed at by many when you live in a semi just outside town, it also looses money quicker than Montgomery Brewster.
At least when you buy a BMW M car you are getting a car that can out perform most of its class, so you can live with the image. In the RR sport I am not so sure..
And FYI I would say to every tourag and q7 here, there is at least 3 RRS. They are by far the most common SUV/4x4 in these parts.

Obviously all comes down to personal opinion at the end of the day. Personally i would not be that tempted by a RRS even if they were giving them away (ok, i might think about taking one!) but i am very drawn to the RR. The price crash is producing some quite tempting ones including a TDV8 HSE on an 06 plate from a LR main dealer with sub 20k miles at c£29k, seen on Autotrader. Not a Vogue and a bit over your budget but i imagine there is a deal to be done if tempted!

Not sure what type of house you live in has to do with the price of eggs, unless of course you are a jonesy type? I have the luxury of having my nearest neighbour some 1/4 mile away (just in case you want to gauge on the jonesyometer) and have the choice to drive either a FF and RRS. I agree, the BMW stable is very impressive and yes their cars do sometimes outperform other cars in their class, but only sometimes. I reguarly eat M5's and M3's for breakfast along with whatever other type of Halfords modded Alpina's that get in my way daily. Not in the RRS I hasten to add, I simply run over them , its more sporting.
I see your eye sight as well as your counting is something to be desired - 3xRRS for every Toe/Q7.....yeah right.....for some, the Toerag offers excellent value for money, after all, its a Golf on stilts right?

I was just referencing what I see in the area in terms of houses with the said car. There are plenty of exceptions.
And if you came here, you would see that I am talking sense, there really are that many of them around here.
Fair point, but I guess we live in 2 completely different areas of Hants where they is obviously a huge divide in car choice And if you came here, you would see that I am talking sense, there really are that many of them around here.

Hants probably has way more of the cheaper brands, or the real ones
