Been a ph'r for a few years now with a westfield 4.3V8 but just bought a discovery 3.9V8 auto 94. Took it to sibbertoft on sunday - what a fantastic way to spend a few hours and what an impressive machine.
A few newbie questions if thats ok.

Cant get the diff lock lever to move to the side - it was very stiff between high and low but that is now freeing up a bit - any ideas.

Was thinking of a few mods - firstly a 2inch lift with britpart kit - any good and is it a good idea and then change the tyres - what would you recomend that is reasonably cheap.

lastly any clubs or other venues near me - i am in Northants - and will probably go to devils pit this Sunday coming - thanks in advance.

Diff-locks that haven't been used much are often very stiff - give the linkage a squirt of WD40 and keep wiggling. When it's freed up spray some grease on it.

Before fitting a lift, decide what size tyres you want to fit and make sure the lift will allow that, rather than the other way round. I'd go with 235/85/16 tyres - lots of people prefer 265/75/16 because they are wider, but they reduce the ground pressure a little too much - the 235's perform better IME. Bear in mind that these new bigger tyres will increase the gearing quite a lot - revs will be lower at a cruise and engine braking on descents will be reduced noticeably. Ideally you would combine the bigger tyres with a lower ratio on the t-box to maintain ideal gearing.

Edited to add - for venues see if Avon Dassett quarry near Banbury is still putting on events. Haven't been for years but it was a good site.

Hi Dave.
Welcome to the folds of Landy owners!!!
I am part of a local group ENLROC (East Northants L R Owners' Club) which has a good website of you google ENLROC.
Some of us do green laneing at appropriate times of the year, others do trialling, often at Cranford near Kettering, and some do play days. A good site I've been to is Tixover - on the Corby side of Stamford. This is a good site to test the abilities of your Disco.
Hope this helps.

Chris.

ps What part of the area are you from?

Also Waddon in Milton Keynes, but make sure you have recovery points and equipment as it gets pretty soft (which I assume you have, if you have been to devils pit)
Not been for years, but here are some photos:

I have,nt got any equipment yet as i am new to all this - i do know that i need to remove the tow bar as that is the only reason i got stuck once at devils pit.My modification plans are a two inch suspension lift, possibly a two inch body lift a front winch bumper and some decent tyres - does that make sense and sound a good idea or not ?
Thanks
Dave

Get a Kenetic rovery rope and a static rope. People are more likey to pull you out if you show willing, rather than sitting there waiting for them to get their gear out/dirty.

The tom bar does act like a bloody great plough but if you are removing it make sure that you fit some protection for the fuel tank.
