would putting super unleaded (ron 98) into a 2 stoke bike mess it up, as it has anti knock properties and stops detonation(plinking).

as 2 strokes spark just after the downstroke starts (correct me if im wrong)wouldnt the high ron fuel stop it from fueling properly as it has anti knock properties?

High octane fuel should be no worse than low octane fuel, but is likely to be better. Pinking occurs when the fuel self ignites before it should rather at the point when the spark plug sparks. In both 2 and 4 stroke engines you want the fuel to burn when it’s supposed to which is more likely with higher octane fuel.

I didn’t think that 2 strokes wait until after TDC to fire. (I could be wrong though.) The reason engines fire before TDC is to give the charge time to burn. This is why ignition advance happens more when the engine is revving faster. (The fuel needs to burn quicker as each stroke happens faster) I don’t see why this would not be just as true in a 2 stroke as it would be in a 4 stroke.

I race 2 strokes and changed halfway through the season from normal unleaded petrol to shell v-power.

I noticed an immediate difference as the engine feels more responsive when blipping the throttle.

Most 2T Trials Bikes have a sticker recommending the use of 98 RON fuel.

Nothing really to do with 2 strokes, but I filled up in Portsmouth the other day prior to going to France and the BP garage had a 102 octane pump at a crowd pleasing 242p per L.

Was not tempted!!!!!
