have recently upgraded from a Chimaera to a 9 month old 4.2. Have only had it for 5 weeks and it has done a total of 5500 miles, 2500 by me. So far it has had to be returned to the dealers on the back of a transporter because of high idle speed, 2000 rpm and again in Portugal when a heater hose rubbed against the engine mounting and I lost the coolant in 38C! Got it fixed but now I find that I have no controls on the steering wheel. Dealer has been good and is sending me a new wiring ring (?) to fit myself as I can't get it back at present. Anyone have any experience of fitting one of these and are they all so damn delicate! Never had one moments problem with the Chim.

Sounds like you've had some bad luck so far, and no they're not all delicate, so hopefully things will improve.

Is it the ribbon cable that the dealer is sending you?

The ribbon cable is used quite a lot around the car, steering wheel controls, heater controls etc and seems to be the cause of quite a few problems, so could well be your fault.

However I think you may need a special crimping tool to fit it, maybe worth getting it back to the dealer, to save any hassle, and on such a new car will be paid for by them.
