F355 Compression tests
Discussion
Hey All,
Have been looking at a couple of 355's recently, two have got my attention. One is a private sale, low milage, clean car.
The other from a dealer, higher milage, very clean car. He has recently had the compressions checked for me.
They came back as 5 cylinders were 210, 2 were just <200 and one was 175.
Would the low cylinder cause an issue in the future? Or is it still in the realms of accepted tolerance?
Thanks for any advice.
Hi that sounds like a big variance now when I had mine done I was told there were different ways of doing it as a result mine was as follows :
1 175
2 175
3 175
4 176
5 176
6 176
7 175
8 174
If you have any other questions drop me a line, my inspectionwas done by Grimaldi wouldnt go any wherere else for an inspection.
I really wouldnt bother about what it said on the clock !!! its mostly irelivant I looked at loads and very few were the right milage.
There is an 8k one about and if its done 8k then I am the pink panther !!!
I would walk away

When I bought my F355 2 yrs ago the compression test results were:
1. 195 p.s.i
2. 210
3. 205
4. 205
5. 195
6. 205
7. 205
8. 210
My understanding from the specialist who did the PPI is that as long as the figures are within 10% of each other then all is well. The theoretical "new" figure is 220psi but I was told that you would not actually get this reading even on a new engine. A friend just bought an F355 within the past couple of weeks and his compression test figures were:
1 190 p.s.i.
2 190
3 185
4 190
5 175
6 170
7 180
8 180
The specialist at QV who did his PPI confirmed the desire to have less than a 10% spread and also said that unless one figure was really very low then it would not be obvious when driving the car that there was a problem and that they would only be reporting a problem if the figures were around the 140 psi level.

No mine was seen as normal but there are different ways of doing the test I am told. I was worried when I got my results but checked it out witha couple of people and it was "normal"
Had the car since feb and its perfect
I am sure if you give rob a call at grimaldi he would be more than happy to explain.
