Hey all, long time lurker, first time (i think?) poster!

Basically, my V reg 1.25 Zetec fiesta has a few issues.

1) Air con leaks into footwells. Tried to clean drain pipe, but was told by garage it was actually something to do with a pollen filter - sceptical, as this garage has now proved itself to be a poor one.

2) When engine is cold, if I have, say, just the CD player on, it'll struggle when idling and eventually stall, but when it warms up you can have lights, cd player, heating, rear window demister etc. all on and it idles perfectly. Also, at any point, warm or cold, air con can be switched on and it will stall, also when driving along, when the air con clutch engages it'll slow right down to 55 say (if on the motorway), speed back up again when air con is off or clutch disengages.

I have replaced idle control valve and throttle potentiometer (had a problem with sticking/rising revs when idling, which appears to have gone, although ocasionally notice it), so i've narrowed it down to the engine not being able to cope with extra load, although whats odd is how it'll cope with some forms of load (cd player etc) fine once it's warmed up, but air con is permanent.

Plan to take it to Ford to hook up onto diagnostics machine in case it's ECU related, but any ideas from here would be great, to help pinpoint it!

Bit of a monster post for my first one, but any help appreciated people!

Sounds like perhaps a bad battery and/or alternator.

Cheers for the reply. Neither of those things, did a voltmeter check and all was spot on. I can also leave it for a few days or so at a time and it starts perfectly. Argh, so puzzling!

Air con drain pipe - This is a common problem & my wife Fiesta also had this problem. You need an airline to blow it through and it'll sort it out..

Engine loading / stalling - I would check all the plugs and see if they are running similar colours, then get a compression tester a check each cylinder for loss of compression.
