Can anyone help? Purchased 53 plate m3 7months ago from main BMW Agent. Took it back to BMW when front speaker stopped working, to find out that both front speakers and tweeters had been removed with wiring loom, and non BMW parts bodged inplace. BMW agreed to replace the speakers and parts under warranty. When I went to collect it they said that they need the car back in again as they have found leaking seals around the diff and play in the steering rack! Is this normal with 60,000 miles on clock? On closer inspection, door stickers on drivers side is peeling to show another one underneath. Overspray on the back windscreen!! I'm now wondering if this is not quite the car I thought I was purchasing from a main dealer, who assure me it had had all the checks. One would hope this involved damaged repaired/stolen recovered. What should I do?

Regards

Pray! frown

Did you find the overspray / sticker or did the dealer point it out?

Did you read the hpi report, it would be there for you to read and should be in your folder when you got the car as well.

HPI won't tell you if the car has been in an unrecorded smack though.

The problem you have is that the dealer will deny responsibility and say that you could have had paintwork etc in the last 7 months.

With regards to the warranty work, be thankful that they are covering these items on Warranty!

thankful????? he should give the car back!!! thats just outrageous. you buy an approved used BMW because you have faith in their checks etc and that nowhere in a million years you would be sold a dodgy car. time to take some action i think

7 months down the line is a long time and well past most protection of Sale of Goods Act.

You have just taken the words out of my mouth!! I absoultely love the car it's awesome to look at and drive. But as you say I paid good money for it so that I could have peace of mind. I did not want to look privately as I didn't have the time and I wanted to be sure I got the right car. I have mentioned to the dealer it came from, that I have some concerns about overspray. His reply was that it is a used car at the end of the day, and may have picked up a few scratches etc. I appreciate that and yes it has a few stone chips as you would expect, but I would have expected them to have done their homework, so that they are sure to be selling only the very best. It is now with a local dealer, but I just can't settle. The local dealer have agreed to have a look at the sticker that is peeling, but why would it have another one underneath. Am I worrying about nothing? Should I just enjoy!!

2nd hand cars are just that, 2nd hand. Why didn't you notice overspray for 7 months? Can't exactly be obvious? Even brand new cars have paintwork. Just enjoy the car or sell it and buy brand new ( may still have overspray )

what else makes you suspicious of the car?

I first noticed the over spray on the rear screen about 2 months ago, it didn't ring too many alarm bells as it was not very noticeable and as you say even new might have some. On finding out that the speakers had been removed made me look a little closer. In fact, just had a friend round that's in the trade. Found signs of over spray inside the drivers door. But my point is, should BMW have pointed this out to me, prior to purchase or were they not aware. I understand that the car came from Mercedes, having been part exchanged. Also this car has a sticker on the inside of the door stating that it had been Re-lacquered in 2005

Sweet F A! But if it says that the vehicle has history it will be a lesson learnt, not looking at the paperwork properly.

Just enjoy the car, taken 7 months to notice all this, unless it has bad history don't worry.

whats this business about the door sticker? is it the one that shows the VIN number etc?

I think Car manufacturers are wiser than to stick the Vin on somewhere else other than a sticker

If the stickers underneath are different then it looks like at the very least its a a stolen & recovered car(recovered after the crooks have started tampering with it). I bought an SLK knowing it was stolen/recovered and the dodgy stickers were still there. I just peeled them off, the real ones are very hard to remove without leaving obvious signs of tampering.

This is outrageous if this is from a BMW dealer as they have obviously not done the correct checks and the law is 100% behind you. Keep us updated.

Name and shame the dealer if they try not too give you a full re-fund as they have F*cked up and makes a mockery of there used car policy.

P.S. F*ck looking at the paperwork and HPi reports, all used BMW's have allegedly had these checks done for you hence why you probably paid £3-4k more for it. The lazy gits have obviously only checked the VIN number sketched on the Engine which is harder to remove than the stickers(If that has also been changed then its a complete balls up by BMW). The VIN number under the front of the windscreen can also be removed so give that a check and compare that to the log book. The only way they can get out of this is to accuse you of making these changes or the car is an import. They are F*cked.

Did you ask the dealer if the car had any accident damage?
Dealers just buy stock, take part exs etc.... The protection from a dealer is really pretty limited. In my experience they put less effort into buying stock than your average punter does when buying privately. If they can make some money they will go for it.
If the only prob with your car is some evidence of paint, you are happy that it isnt going to be taken away by the police, it has no dodgey history on the HPI etc then I would forget it and enjoy the car.

Hi Wanta996gotta,

Car going into local BMW Dealer this week for other warranty work. They have agreed to check the stickers inside the door for me. The car was actually purchased from a BMW Dealer in London, not mentiioning any names yet unless the worst happens!! Thanks for the advice on checking vin number. All the paperwork seems to be in order but I will double check. Will keep you posted on the outcome later this week. Thanks again it's a real help. I hope the car turns out to be ok,I absolutely adore it.

Thanks (Mrs) Kart
