has anybody else had this?
going over speed bumps at very reasonable speeds (no more that 15mph), at road joints and depressions on MWs at speed I am getting a disturbing creaking / banging sound from the underside of my '02 S3.

It seems to be towards the from of the car.

At first I thought it could be exhaust slap on the underside, its been back to the dealer twice, they have adjusted the exhaust, released and reset the chassis tensioners etc but say that they cant SEE "anything wrong" ...
I have finally thrown my toys and they have now agreed to have it for a week to try and solve the problem.

Has anybody else had this? Any ideas??

How about driving your mechanic over the speedbumps in question?

i had it on my 2000 and 2001 model s3 the brought out another exhaust to cure the problem. also have a look at the s3 forum on rs246.com and ask the boys over there

thx Jon - i was thinking it was the exhaust, Daz - handnt thought of that

trouble is the car doesnt make noises when the mech is in the car <agh>, hence letting them have it for 5 days. I would have assumed by the amount of noise it makes that you could 'see' the problem, apparently not. Will have to wait and see what they say next week.
