Studded Tyres for Norway WRC?
Discussion
I'm driving to Norway in February to watch the WRC and was wondering whether anyone could shed any light on the tyre situation.
I have heard reports that snow chains are the way to go but offer a lower cruising speed than studs.
If studs are the way forward, then where the dickens would I get a set of those?
Any help would be great.

Having worked in Norway over a few years I've learned that:
Winter tyres are not a legal requirement but if you're involved in any accident - then it's your fault!!
Snowchains are recommended if you go onto minor roads which are not regularly cleared.
If you want studded tyres then you may have to get them fitted in Norway as they ARE illegal in Germany, Holland and possibly Denmark. Most Norwegians have a spare set of (steel) wheels with their winter tyres fitted - the salt will kill alloys.....
I wouldn't fancy driving on six inches of solid packed snow without good winter tyres.
Having said that I've had a couple of winters in Southern Norway where there wasn't enough snow to ski on!!
Try contacting the local touris office in the town you are going to - they're usually very helpful.
Have fun - and don't forget to take the FULL duty free allowance of beer, wine & spirits!!
