Hello,

Can someone please tell me how I can tell if the Rear Entertainment is Factory Fitted or has been done as an after market job.

Some of them appear to be in the headrests and some appear to be in the back of the seat itself? Did land Rover give customers the option or is one of these an aftermarket job?

Ive attached some pics of advertised cars?

Ps these are all 2002 to 2005 Cars.

They all look 3rd party after market to me. Not that it matters tho. Land Rover charge £2400 for their rear entertainment. It is perfectly acceptable for people wanting rear entertainment at less than half that price.

Mine is a third party install. Very, very neat, but on closer inspection it is definately not factory fitted.

However, on the original bill of sale, it reports that the rear headrest screens and DVD player are a factory option.

ETA: Mine look very similar to this photo from your list

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for yours?

I believe this is the factory fit. You can see the TX/RX control unit in black on the roof lining. It's certainly the one fitted to my 4.2S and should come with wirless headphones (x2) and a remote control.

I bought the car privately second hand - so the kit was already installed.

It was only when I had to have a couple of interior panels off that I spotted the wiring for the DVDs, and it became very apparant that it was not factory standard.

However, the chap I bought it from was meticulous at keeping paperwork (always a good sign when buying a used car!) and the kit is listed as "factory fitted" on the original bill of sale - when I get chance I'll dig it out and see what the extra cost for the kit was listed as.

I'd add that mine is a P38, rather than an L322 (I think that pic is an L322?) - but the size/fitment/finish/appearance of the screens is identical to that pic)

With D3s (is this the same for RRs?) all of these type of extras are fitted (AFAIK) at the dealers not at the factory.

This is the factory fit system, they were only available from 05 MY onwards and standard on Vogue SE when that came in for 2006 MY.

One good way to tell if it is an OE fit is to see if there are auxiliary inputs under a flap behind the centre console. These allow you to plug in playstations and so on. You can't quite see it in the photo but it is below the rear vents. The original system is very well integrated and flush fitting.

There's also the often overlooked roof mounted flip down screen. It doesn't have the flexibilty of the twin screen set-up (one kid zapping zombies, the other watching the Lion King etc) but it's not as noticeable from outside the car, which is a bonus if you leave your car in station car parks and the like.

I have the flip down in my disco 3. Rather than pay the dealer 2.5k I bought from eBay for 130 quid and got local co to fit for under 100 quid. So less than a tenth of land r price!!!
