Which basic but upgradable unit?

Hi

I want to buy a Satnav for a present

Its for the FIL so obviously cheap is good

However it would be handy if there are any basic units that could be upgraded by him at his cost
Im thinking expanding the maps to cover France/Europe plus buying a TMC module

Its not clear from a quick Google

Budget 100-140 initially

Ideas welcome

Tomtom1 is probably his best bet. Easy to use and expansion is merely a card you buy and plug in.

not for the current generation (v4) or the previous one (v3). The last One to have SD capability was the v2 and that is at best 2 years old now.

The previous version one xl (v1) is probably the best bet, and can be had for a decent price these days. The current version XL (v2) doesn't have a memory card slot.
