Could anyone out there give me some advice regarding the automatically retracting steering wheel on my 03 Vogue.
It makes a squeaking noise when going back in once the key is taken out of the ignition.
(It sounds OK when coming back up again)
My local L R indies have told me it's a replacement job costing £600 plus! But I wonder if I can take off the cover behind the steering wheel and lube it with a spray??
I believe it's a common problem so hopefully somebody out there has fixed it themselves, and can pass on their tips.
Thanks in advance.

be curious if there are any answers to this as mine does the same, think there maybe a solution as when ours was serviced last the technician obviously lubed something as the noise had disappeared & there was a tin of spray lube left in the armrest, 3 weeks in and the noise was back though.

When you turn the ignition off, the steering wheel retracts using electrickery so that one can get one's enormous Stateside gut out the way... then when you start the car it goes back to the programmed position (depending on seat memory or key memory, whichever is selected).

If you drop the trim panel from above the pedals you should be able to see enough of the column mech to squirt it with a suitable lubricant.
