hello my name is josh and i have recently brought a 1994 e36 318 bmw, for the first couple weeks of driving the car it was sound but now when ever i am in first gear it makes my car bounce and jolt everywhere but it doesn't seem to do this on gravel just tarmac and it only does it in 1st gear, if you are able to please help me smile thanks josh

the engine doesnt seem to knock or anything when releasing clutch fast, why would and engine mount make it do what it is doing?? help lol?

Does it mainly do it when manoeuvring??

Sounds like the symptoms of a locked diff if it doesn't do it on gravel and only when manoeuvring (which I have assumed!)?


Of course, I've got no idea how possible this is in a 318 and I may well be talking out my arse!

Just a suggestion.... but check the concertina'd rubber link between the throttle body and the airflow meter. Theyre very prone to splitting and when they do, the car will kangaroo like a good 'un as the engine rocks on its mountings and the split opens and closes.
I'm guessing the torque reaction on gravel will be less due to lack of grip.
A temporary fix can be cobbled up using silicone and duck tape, but a replacement part isnt too expensive from a dealer.

Would put money on it being this above.
