Was going to do this on the way back from Wales, but i was too tired frown

Anyone with a TomTom or Garmin can get ther ITN file here:
http://www.drivingroads.co.uk/product_info.php?cPa...
My new toy is a freeware program called TYRE which allows you to plot out TomTom itinerary routes using Google Maps or Google Earth. I've been playing around for a while and I don't even go to Wales for another three weeks! I know, I'm a sad, sad man.

Needless to say I already have a route with the Black Mountain road, the B4650 and a few other apparent highlights noted down, so anyone's who's interested PM me and I can send you a TomTom *.itn file. No guarantees to its accuracy yet though!
Files are free to download on that DrivingRoads website anyway

As far as I'm aware they're only single raods though? With the program in question you can take all of those suggestions and create a circular route taking in all of them.

Just hope it stops bloody snowing.

Didn't want to start a new thread on this subject, so to add to this one, here's our pictures from our weekend in Wales, with the Black Mountain road as our eventual destination:
http://www.scoobysmacs.co.uk/gallery/gallery.asp?d...
We started off from Stockport on the sat morning, heading over for a meeting at the top of the evo first:

Then we headed around our fave roads in the area, via bets-y-coed for our first fuel stop, to eventually arrive at the Elan Valley:

After a great night in the Hafod Hotel in Devils Bridge, it was a fairly early, damp and misty start to the Sundays drive:

It soon brightened up though, and the road dried up nicely, although they were still full of dried salt! (car needs a bloody good clean today!)
We made the Black Mountain road in good time as the roads were quiet.

and stopped for a while to have a play.
From there, it was a race to the next petrol stop, deciding on Newtown as the best bet, we headed off and hit typical sunday traffic frown The rest of the route was simple A road back to the A55/M56/M60 and home. All in, for me, 504.5 miles, £98 fuel, £70 hotel and sundries and a great weekend away biggrin

I drove the A4069 yesterday and have never had so much fun driving my car. It was really quiet by late afternoon so had time to play around the hairpin in the picture above biggrin

Those pictures look fantastic, I am going to have to take a drive out there when the weather picks up a bit.

How long did it take you to get back to our neck of the woods CW? If it is not too bad I might try an early morning wander.

Is that hairpin on the A4069? ...ah, that would explain why I can't find it on the B4560! biggrin

My trip is drawing near and looking forward to doing those two plus the A4059! bounce

We didn't come straight back, and went via Newtown to fill up for the final leg. I think we were there at around midday and got home just before 5pm. I reckon you'd be able to get down there quite quickly if you were just doing that road biggrin

I live near there and as far as i'm concerned the roads from the black mountain (as in the cool hairpin between llangadog and brynamman) to "the sea" are boring in comparison. The nearest excellent "sea" is gower and its through ammanford, boring(ish) roads to the m4 or through pontardulais, then high hedge lined roads through gower for and hour until you get to the stunning coast.

Did this on the weekend for the first time, (the a4069) and its a great road indeed. Did llandovery to brynammon. Its a bit scary in some parts for a newb, if you are hooning it, some unexpected sharp turns on side of hills, so need to go carefully, but its very classy drive indeed.
To get there from cardiff, I drove up the a470 to brecon, which is decent once past merthyr, and then the a40 across to llandovery which was surprisingly sensational, completely took me by surprise, not a gatso or jam sarnie in sight, just a few likeminded hooners.
Im glad i read this thread thoroughly as i decided to try the b4520 from brecon to builth on sunday and preferred it to the a4069. Smoother road surfaces and generally a better safer drive with more pleasant scenery. highly recommended, probably my fav. The a481 near builth onto the a44 is also a decent drive if you are heading midlands or eastwards. Did the a44 back to london as well which was ok ish, but crap once you near worcester.
A while back, I did a road from crickowell (wales) westwards, pretty sure it was the b4558 which was also great.
More a4069 beaters please

Glad you enjoyed it. Its probably my favourite as well because its fast with lots of big bends and changes in height. Also very little traffic and a few good places to blast past if you do get held up.
