Nice Hat If you buy a hat like that do you get a free bowl of soup? Looks good on you though!
There is a bonus prize if you can remember where i stole that line from...
No idea about the quote I'm afraid. There is a bonus prize if you can remember where i stole that line from...
That hat is linked to the 'how cool would a 22 year old look with a Jaguar XJ6' thread, as it shows that exact result. My 23rd birthday present from my best mate being the 'old mans' hat.
I think it's fair to say that it irked him somewhat that (as you say) it suited me!
To be fair, everything suited me better back then when I was merely a shadow of my current self...
It was from Caddyshack BTW....

Could you use one every day and not have to pawn all your worldly goods?
So Lager for me and a Mild for you then?
EFA - I can't type to save my life tonight

I believe the Maybach has it, although I've never seen one/been in one/ met anyone who wons one to know different.
I had a scramble round a 57 once and whilst admiring the bling glued to every surface I asked what it sounded like when it was running.Turns out it had been the whole time and I couldn't tell. Astonishing.

I've got a BMW just now so i'm alright. I do look at XJ40s and think one could be good fun.

I bought one last year for £625 off ebay, spent literally nothing on it apart from an oil change and a couple of tyres, did 12000 miles and sold it for £500.Could you use one every day and not have to pawn all your worldly goods?
Traded it in for a Phaeton
Over the years the family have owned a number of Jags but the XJ12 stands out as being one of the finest cars ever made or to be more accurate in the case of the Series I, designed.
We all know the looks were superb and the V12 utterly seamless but the ride, it was just better than anything else going.

Eventually vandalism and the resultant less than perfect paint repair spoilt the ownership for me, otherwise it would still be getting used every day now.
PS: I should add that a project involving 15,000 miles over three months was sufficiently scary enough to warrant buying a 205gti for work for that period - the amount saved in fuel (and an additional service) more than paid for the Pug!
My dad had a W140 Mercedes 600SEL which was possibly the quietest, most refined car I have ever driven/been driven in. Everyone who sat in the back of it fell asleep, this may have had something to do with the rear seat configuration, a bit like a Maybach, in that it had two seats that could individually recline with a drinks cooler inbetween. It was unbelievable!
I've had a 730 (e32) and currently drive an e39 535. Both good cars that allow you to waft along quite nicely. However the one car I owned that has been acknowledged by everyone who went in it as the most comfortable was an old Saab 9000i (2.3 non turbo)
My wife always fell asleep in it if the journey was more than an hour.

+1Only problem with the XJ12 was it was so quiet, if you farted the leather would ripple and everyone would know you did it, but good god its quick. I can only wonder what it would be like if it wasn't saddled with a 3sp gearbox.
Bentley Brooklands (Old one) - I WILL own a mulsanne bodied Bentley, just a fantastic car. You never want to go back to a pleb wagon ever again.
Bristol Blenheim - So deliciously oddball, built like no other car, never driven one but been a passenger. Just magical. But a bit severe near £200k price tag, but worth every penny IMO.
Best wishes all,
Dave.
For me it has to be the last of the Range Rover Classic LSE's, with a V8 on Air suspension.
"Wafting" personified, and unlike all the other low down cars mentioned here you get a satisfying sense of superiority looking down on the masses.
Other than that a Jag XJ, nobody knows hoe to do refined like the English.
Also current Range Rover is fecking superb.

Very smooth V8 and soft ride.

When i had mine, i went for one with springs. TBH when the air springs break just convert them into normal ones. Kits aboit £300ish and a monkey could fit it.
But the RR is nowhere near as refined as a Series 3 XJ12, Lexus LS400/430, RR/Bentley or a newish Bristol.

BTW, I'm not a snob/rich kid/yahoo/rah/gentry just like the way the classic Rangey makes me feel.
