Just the usual places I would have thought, forums, E38, clubgti, here of course, Autotrader and local papers.

When I was looking for a new one recently I was prepared to travel >4-500 miles for a good one and found one on my doorstep while searching for an interior for another car. Just keep em peeled and check the forums every day.

edit: just noticed there's a J reg Oak Green 16v for sale on cgti.

I've always bought my VW's off Autotrader, from Scriocco's to golfs to Corrado's and I believe you generally pay a bit less as sometimes the seller doesn't know what they've got as opposed to speialist sites E38 Cgti etc.

exactly right, i recently bought my last one from on here in the classifieds - although you have to be quick- i searched for 3weeks an bought the 2nd one i looked at but had another 3 or 4 which id have considered. I got a 1990 Oak green 16v with 125k on it FSH advertised for 1500 but i ended up driving off in it for 1000 :-)

Autotrader an Pistonheads or local trade are much better than the E38/CGTI forums as people always put a "scene tax" on the car ie most people seem to believe a oak green 16 is worth a minimum of £2K regardless of condition.

aka kerrly please don't tell me it's a 3dr one or I might have to be very jealous!
To be fair even if it's a 5 door it's a bargain!

Well "missing the VR6"

Ive owned mk2 GTI 8v 5 doors before as they make excellent dailys but for me any 16v i buy HAS to be 3door and a metalic paint

This is what £1000 buys you although it needed new tires (hence the G60 alloys) an a cambelt change but its tax'd , MOT'd has approx £3K of receipts, every MOT an vast majority of VW service history. Im loving it

Or another previous purchase for £1500 - 2.0L 16v, full leather interior, G60 bodykit

or £275 gets you - MOT'd, 3 owners, FVWSH inc every receipt from new

You just need to be in the right place at the right time ;-)
