Beefier V8S chassis (from when?)
Discussion
Unable to make an inspection yet of a prospective purchase, can I assume a V8S registered on 2Aug91 will have an S3 chassis and not the beefed up version which came later (ref page 172 of the Bible)? Is there such an improved handling with the later chassis, as mentioned by Steve H. ?
Not seen or driven a non standard chassis V8S car myself so I can't comment directly, but a V8S against a S3 or such is a markedly different feeel IMHO.
Do you know if it really has the earlier chassis, or you surmising , as I think the amount of these ones can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Have you looked at a V8S and compared it directly against a S3 to see the difference . The easiest thing I can think of for checking is to look under where the engine sits, you should see an X cross-bracing not present on the earlier cars.
Anyone else .
Oh yeah....... the V8S wil be a little quicker .
Happy hunting

I think the different routing of the exhaust on the V8S (i.e. so as not to spark up everytime you drive over a piece of grit) is possible because of the chassis changes (could be talking bollox) - the only way to be sure would be to take a look. I've never heard of a V8S with an S3 chassis!

The original V8S (I had one of the first, ordered the day TVR announced they would make it) had the chassis that was intended for the Griffith. The Griff release date was postponed because TVR wanted to do more work on the Chassis but the V8S was launched (in theory limited numbers as a stopgap). I have never looked at the very late cars so don't know if they were changed from the original. The V8S chassis was later used in the S4. It was not an S3 chassis.
