Hi. I am new to TVR and i'm wanting to buy my first Cerbera, I have 20K to spend and i'm relly after a 4.5 if i can. Any one there who can advise me on where to go, buy trade or private and most importantly do I need to budget for high maintenance cost as so many none TVR owners keep telling me. Appreciate your help.

You're in the right ballpark with that figure, look at as many as you can and drive a few to get a good feel for what they are. I'd say dealer would be best as you'll get a warranty with it.

Maintenance costs.
The Cerbera will be like your mistress so of course there will be maintenance costs, how much? Well if you see her every day you need only lavish Shell's finest optimax on her with the occasional fiddle to keep everything fine but if you leave your mistress for a while when you come back she could want a lot more. Use everyday to keep everything moving. But always keep something in reserve in case she threatens to tell the wife

But when you drive one you'll want one no matter what!

How much "leaving for a while" is likely to cause problems?

Obviously laying up over winter for 3 months is a no-no.
What about only driving at the weekends?
What about every other day? Every third day?
If I was really only going to drive at the weekend, how often during the week should I take her out for a spin (not literally, I hope )?

Ours isn't driven every day - it gets used three times a week or thereabouts if the weather is nice, or just on the weekends if it isn't. No problems so far - we're about to get it back post-service, and apparently it's been given a clean bill of health from the Joolzmeister.

Just my 2p's worth.

It really depends on the integrity of the car (as they are all different) in the first place. You can drive it every day but you can drive only at weekends (best if kept in a garage if you do) but some don't like it and complain when you try to start them up. I'd say once every 2-3 days is the norm but you'll find yourself wanting to drive it more often.

I drove mine in the winter, icy roads and all because it's not an all down low torque beast like a Griffith or Chimaera (it's a revving monster and has all it's torque higher up around the 4,500 rev mark) you can have better low speed control and less chance of spinning the wheels than on a Rover V8 powered car.

Battery life can be a problem they can run down quickly so a charger and if possible a trickle charger is a good investment, certainly if you plan on it being a weekend only car or go away on holiday.

1. Don't bother with a 4.5 - get yourself a good 4.2 which will give you exactly the same performance. Line mine!
2. Where to go? See here!
3. Buy private I reckon. How about this one?
4. You won't need cash for maintenance with mine - it's been really good for the last (almost) 4 years with me, and I use it every day. But if you get a problem, you're well under budget so will be able to sort it.

Look guys, it's all well and good you pimping your cars, but some of us are looking to buy and the more you advertise, the less chance I have of buying

Hmmm
Maybe I should do that upgrade to a newer Cerbera
sooner rather than later and pimp my now sorted 96?

Nah, it's too good a car to part with - next year maybe.
