Hi folks

My father-in-law is thinking about purchasing a 2003-'04 E46 320d Touring for motorway work. He was wondering about running costs, service intervals, tax per year etc and I thought you guys might be able to help.

He drives about 25k miles a year and doesn't want to spend a fortune keeping it on the road.

Also any major known problems to be aware of? He's got about 8-10k to spend and hopes to get something decent.

I did a search for running costs without much luck, so I'd be grateful for any help.

Many thanks.

Johnny

i have a 2003 320D M Sports.

Running Costs.

Warranty £230 just in case.
Service - £120 once a year some parts are included in that.
Oil changes - £30 twice a year.
Tires - £100 per corner every 2 years or so.
Fuel - £70 per tank for 700 miles i do mostly motorways.

Now as you can tell i do not use a main dealer for oil or servicing and the car is fine.

I use http://www.f1autocentres.co.uk/index.asp and they have always been fine.

Tax i think without running out to the car was £140 and with the proposed increase. it will be £150 so £10 per year difference.

Known issues affected the swirl flaps on some head over to http://www.bmwland.co.uk/talker/index.php to check out if the 04 model was affected.

Oil service interval is around 15000 miles but i do mine ever 7000 ish... it alters with different styles of driving.

Thanks Allan. I'll check out the swirl flaps on the BMWland site.
Cheers
